Peace, Love, and Music

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on May 16, 2017

2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Summer Of Love. 1967 was a high point for the counterculture movement of the Boomer generation. San Francisco became an outpost for the youth of the day, a place where they could come together and let their feelings on the world be known. Most of this exploration came in the form of music. So it’s only natural that San Francisco is looking to celebrate its historical and cultural importance with a large variety of events around the city this year. Here’s some information on the places you need to be out and about this summer.

Haight Ashbury Street Fair
Most people in San Francisco know of these two famous streets and the significance they lent to the burgeoning music scene of the 60’s. The street fair is now celebrating their 40th anniversary. Dust off your old tie-dye and bell-bottom jeans. Bring the kids or grandkids, because this is a family oriented festival. The festival maintains two stages. A main stage for headlining acts, and a second stage for alternative acts. The festival runs from 11 am to 5:30 pm on June 11th. The location is the intersections of Haight and Ashbury. The cost is free, so how can you beat that?

Monterey International Pop Festival
The Monterey Pop Festival has now become known as a premiere music festival. A far cry from it’s humble beginnings. The festival honors its first year, by holding the concert on the exact same days as it was in 1967. The festival is a 3 day event and festival goers are encouraged to buy a 3 day pass to save money and maximize their enjoyment. The festival is a bit larger and requests that you don’t bring strollers and don’t bring babies and infants in your arms. It might be a time to get grandma and grandpa to look after the kids. The festival is located at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. One day passes cost $105, with three day passes available for $295. This year brings famous acts like, Jack Johnson, Regina Spektor, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Father John Misty. Over 20 artists will be attending, so make sure to get your tickets soon.

Marin County Fair
The county fair is more known for its celebration of livestock and carnival rides. This year, the fair is going full on free love with a 60’s theme that’s sure to bring back memories from when dad’s hair was long and wild. The theme is “Let the Funshine In!” expect to see kaleidoscopes and 60’s fashion shows. The lineup features acts such as, Fifth Dimension, The Commodores, UB40, Three Dog Night, and many more. The fair is all ages and you’re encouraged to purchase early and save money. Children under 4 attend free. Tickets for the fair vary for ages. Tickets for evening concerts as well as fair admission are $50. The fair runs June 30th through July 4th at Avenue of the Flags, in San Rafael.
