February Festivals in San Francisco

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on January 20, 2015

Festival culture often goes hand in hand with the summer. We hear "festival", and we think of tents in a field, wide-brimmed hats, sandals, and gallons of water to ward off heat stroke. Leave it to San Francisco to upend the paradigm. This February features several unique and entertaining festivals to keep your heart beating, your legs moving, and your brain chugging away. The winter doldrums come hard and heavy, but the Bay Area is highly qualified to ensuring that you suffer as little as possible.

Salsa Rueda Festival: Cranking up the heat is the 7th Annual San Francisco Salsa Rueda Festival. For four whole days you can head on down to the Hotel Whitcomb at 1231 Market Street for live music, classes, partying, and — of course — all the dancing that your body can stand. If you want to participate, but don’t want to dance until your knees fall off, then you can attend some of the numerous lectures and presentations dedicated to exploring the history and traditions of this electrifying style of music. The musical acts performing at the festival come from all over the country and the world, and are some of the most renowned and lauded in the salsa community.

SF Indie Fest: Independent film has long held a place in the heart of San Francisco. The number of movie theaters alone gives a good indication as to the importance of cinema in the City by the Bay. Running for two weeks, the SF Indie Fest will feature a wealth of independent films that you might never be able to see anywhere else. Have you ever wanted to watch ten movies in a row? Now’s your chance! And since the whole thing is being held at the world famous Roxy Theater you won’t need to worry about driving around the city looking for the venue. Get your tickets early and attend the opening night celebration, featuring music by The Conspiracy of Beards (a Leonard Cohen cover choir) and The Jerk Church Tabernacle Choir.

San Francisco Beer Week: This 10 day festival boasts of over 500 beer-related happenings in breweries, bars, yoga studios, and restaurants in and around the city. Anyone who likes beer, is interested in learning more about beer, or is simply looking for a rollicking way to spend a week will enjoy hopping from location to location, tasting smoked beers, sour beers, various barley wines, and attending lectures on how to brew your own beers, what to pair with beer, and even some cooking classes. This is a comprehensive beer-focused event that will make any trip highly memorable.

Sketchfest: Want to laugh? Then Sketchfest is where you need to be. This is the annual comedy festival that attracts such stars as Jack Black and Maya Rudolph, and where you can also watch Napoleon Dynamite once again on the big screen with members of the cast in attendance. From game shows to improve troupes, this festival is geared to keep you in stitches for the whole duration.
