22nd Annual Bay Area Anarchist Book Fair

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on September 12, 2017

Bibliophiles know that the end of the summer and the beginning of the fall is the season for book fairs. From New York to Berlin, the shorter days and the colder nights encourage people of all sorts to stay indoors and curl up on the couch with a good piece of literature (or maybe just something to take your mind off of the woes of the world). In San Francisco, residents and visitors can participate in this intellectual slice of the cultural pie at several points throughout the season as book fairs rarely travel alone. Today on the blog, we want to highlight one in particular, one that might not immediately pop up on your radar, but that nevertheless stands apart from the crowd due to its timelines and importance.

The 22nd Annual Anarchist Book Fair will take place on Saturday, September 16th, at the well known and important Omni Gardens. Known as one of the biggest and most important gatherings of radical leftist politics in the world, the 22nd Annual Anarchist Book Fair is a highly anticipated event for those involved in progressive movements, including those interested in engaging in dialogue, exchanging ideas on how to enact positive social change, and simply expanding their political horizons.

More than 100 different vendors will take part in the book fair, many of them connected with independent printing presses or local Bay Area organizations that are working hard to ensure that the future remains a place of hope and possibility for everyone, not just a privileged few. Additionally, the 22nd Annual Anarchist Book Fair will include workshops, roundtable and panel discussions, film screenings, and events known as “skillshares,” where individuals will have the chance to learn some of the basic techniques used to engage in nonviolent resistance.

Whether or not you identify as an anarchist, a socialist, a Marxist, or any other of the “ist” groups, the collectives that arranged this event hope to see you. As a part of the movement to create a more inclusive and nurturing society, multiple voices are needed. This is why a large emphasis for the book fair lies in connecting seemingly disparate political traditions to one another through conversation and collaboration.

The 22nd Bay Area Anarchist Book Fair will take place this coming Saturday at the Omni Gardens in Oakland. The event runs from 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening and is absolutely free.
