For example, communities across the world partake in fireworks, lion dances, duilian decorations, dragon dances, and much more. Many celebrating families gift money-filled red envelopes to one another, a gesture symbolic of good fortune. Meals are often a staple of these celebrations, and dishes such as Buddha’s delight and fish that symbolize surplus are served. While there are a variety of customs, and not all celebrations look alike, participants seem to agree on this one thing: Chinese New Year is a time to celebrate family.
