Pop Star Calls Limousines Embarrassing

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on October 1, 2012

If Australian pop star Kylie Minogue heads to the Bay Area for a concert, don’t look for any San Francisco limousines to pick her up at the airport. The 44-year-old singer recently told reporters that she gets embarrassed when a limo arrives to pick her up. She claims that she prefers a simpler, low profile life these days and is quite happy to live without some of the more ostentatious trappings of being an international recording star.

“I’m like, ‘Please don’t send a limousine! I find them embarrassing!’ I love to have this glamorous life sometimes, and if I didn’t have any of that, I would probably be dressing up a bit more each day or going out on the weekend and making a real effort. But I get to live out those fantasies on stage, in videos or photo shoots. But if I can go somewhere you can wear wellingtons – and just be a total and utter bush person – I need that,” she said recently.

Perhaps Ms. Minogue is a bit jaded after many years of limo transportation to and from nearly all destinations. She’s certainly entitled to her opinion, but her complaints ring a bit hollow to most people who only get to ride in limousines during special occasions. We freely admit that our opinion on this matter is anything but impartial. We still enjoy helping our guests celebrate significant events in their lives, such as these:

If you’re planning a special event and would like to add a Bay Area limo rental to the occasion, you have come to the right place! Each limousine, party van, SUV limo, classic car, limo bus and other luxury transportation option in our fleet is clean, very comfortable and more affordable than you may think! And unlike other Bay Area limousine services, we don’t nickel-and-dime our guests with a la carte charges. We prefer to include as many amenities as possible for one low price. So, the next time you need a San Francisco limo, just give us a call at NLS Limo at 800-339-8936. Who knows? Maybe you want your limo rental for an upcoming Kylie Minogue concert!

Mercedes Announces Plans to Retire Maybach Brand

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on August 29, 2012

Mercedes-Benz, the legendary automaker now owned by conglomerate Daimler AG, recently announced that they are accelerating their plans to phase out and retire the Maybach brand due to disappointing sales. Mercedes initially announced their plans to retire the ultra-luxurious Maybach brand in 2013, but the Maybach 57 and 63 models have already been discontinued, and Mercedes has stopped taking new orders for them.

Few except serious car lovers and collectors remember the previous Maybach brand. Maybach Manufaktur was a luxury automaker based in Stuttgart that was started by Wilhelm Maybach in the early 1900s. They crafted custom automobiles for wealthy European clients until World War II, when production shifted to making motors for airships and rail cars. After the war, the brand languished until Mercedes revived it in the early 2000s in response to other ultra-luxury brands owned by rivals BMW (Rolls-Royce) and Volkswagen AG (Bentley.) However, despite sales forecasts that promised steady growth, Maybach models never sold in the volume Mercedes needed to sustain production, and now the proud Maybach brand will be retired again. Mercedes plans to add a stretch version of their ultra-luxury S-Class sedans to fill that niche.

We are saddened to hear that there will be no more new Maybach models. Regular readers of our blog know how much we love cars of all kinds, especially high-end luxury cars, and the sleek, graceful lines of Maybach automobiles are a treat for the eyes. We don’t have any Maybachs in our fleet of San Francisco luxury car rentals, but we do have some very comfortable and respectable alternatives:

If you’re looking for luxury car rentals in the Bay Area, we have a lot to offer, and each is available at surprisingly affordable rates. Our superb staff of mechanics lovingly maintains each model, and they are all immaculately clean inside and out. So, the next time you need a San Francisco luxury car rental for a day or a week or even longer, just give us a call at NLS Limo at 800-339-8936 to make a reservation!

Bay Area Bachelor Party Limousine Rental Tips

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on August 8, 2012

Are you getting married soon or have you been tasked with organizing a friend’s bachelor party? In either case, you’re going to have to do some homework to ensure that you and your guests have a great time on this momentous occasion. Because we are in the bachelor party limo business, we thought we would pass along some party tips to help make your party safe, fun and very memorable. To that end, here are some tips to help make planning your San Francisco bachelor party limo experience easy:

  • Make your reservation as early as practical
We understand that bachelor parties can be spontaneous affairs, but in order to get the best selection, reserve your transportation as early as practical. This will also allow us plenty of time to accommodate any requests to customize your bachelor party experience.
  • Reserve the right type of transportation
Some bachelor party guests are traditionalists, and only a stretch limousine will do. Others who prefer a bit more headroom and legroom like our party buses or SUV limos. Some of our party bus models also happen to feature stripper poles, a useful item for many bachelor parties.
  • Add a sporting event
Make a full day of it by taking in a baseball, football, hockey or basketball game. It’s your job to make the groom’s last days as a bachelor extra special, and enjoying a game together is sure to create memories that last a lifetime.
  • Start the evening off with a good dinner
After the game, head to a favorite restaurant or someone’s back yard for a barbecue. Everyone loves great food, and it’s a very good idea to eat a good dinner before enjoying an adult beverage or three.
  • Have fun, but be safe
We want our guests to have a great time, but we also want everyone to get home safely without any complications. We know that it is very easy for bachelor party participants to lose track of their alcohol consumption and get a bit more festive than they had planned. Look out for yourself and each other so that everyone has a good time.

That’s a short list of bachelor party limo rental tips, but we think we covered some very good points. When you’re ready to reserve your Bay Area limousine, party bus, SUV limo or other bachelor party transportation, just give us a call at NLS Limo at 800-339-8936. We’ll take care of the rest!

Neighboring Businesses Feud Over Parking and Wedding Limos

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on August 8, 2012

Las Vegas has been the destination for quick weddings and divorces for a very long time. Wedding chapels here are almost as common as casinos, and wedding limo rental companies do a very brisk business keeping up with demand. However, an escalating feud between neighboring businesses may cause some limousine services to think twice about transporting happy couples to and from the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel on Las Vegas Boulevard. The Chapel is located next to a Super 8 Motel, and, since the motel changed ownership last year, there has been a series of conflicts over the use of a common driveway, parking, signage and other issues. The conflicts between the businesses have been frequently heard in city planning commission meetings, and recently, things have soured to the point of litigation.

The animosity escalated sharply recently when the motel began towing the cars of chapel clients who parked in spaces reserved for motel guests. One of the towed vehicles belonged to a rabbi officiating a wedding, causing a scene in the parking lot between business owners and wedding attendees. Ilan Gorodezki, the new owner of the motel, reports that the roots of the problems began long before he owned the business. The previous owner of the motel let the property become decrepit. Needing the parking space, chapel owners regularly let clients park in the motel lot.

"They are a successful business and I have a lot of respect for them," Gorodezki said. "But for years they were doing whatever they wanted and they can’t do that anymore."

Gorodezki has also lodged official complaints with the city over wedding limousines that park across the only entrance to the motel lot, preventing potential motel guests from entering the driveway. His attorney claims that the limos are essentially "imposing a death sentence" on his client’s motel because drive-up traffic is an important part of his client’s livelihood. Last Valentine’s Day, one of the busiest days of the year for the chapel, Gorodezki painted a red line across the shared driveway and partially blocked it with his car, preventing chapel owners from using most of the driveway to enter the lot.

The owners of the chapel claim that causing patrons to use only the narrow north part of the driveway on their property is dangerous, as it forces wedding limo chauffeurs to make sharp U-turns into the narrow driveway.

"What is a wedding without the limo business?" said John Krieger, the chapel’s attorney.

The owners of both businesses have filed lawsuits, and now the matter will be decided in Clark County District Court. They claim they have explored every opportunity to resolve the conflicts but now feel that litigation is their only alternative.

Rent a Bay Area Limo to Head to Wine Country This Year!

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on August 8, 2012

Grape growers in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys are reporting that this year’s crop is shaping up to be exceptionally good. If you’ve been thinking about heading to California wine country to taste some of the world’s best wines, why not rent a San Francisco limo and make a fun, affordable and luxurious day of it? Instead of fighting traffic to and from your favorite wineries and limiting your love for great wine by being a responsible driver, leave the driving to the pros instead, and have a great time with friends! Grape growers and wine producers would love to have you visit their facilities, sample some great wines, eat at the superb restaurants nearby and bring home a case or two to enjoy at home.

Sonoma County Wine Grape Commission member Nick Frey says that this year’s combination of consistently warm days and cool nights has been ideal for grape growers.

“It’s just about been ideal. The crop looks good and really growers have had very few problems this year,” Frey said.

He added that this year’s Pinot Noir grapes are having an exceptionally good year.

Jon Ruel of the Napa Valley Grape Growers is also excited about this year’s crop.

“This year with the nice weather in May and June we have a nice crop out there,” he said. “It’s much improved over last year in terms of quantity, but I wouldn’t say it’s going to be an above average crop either. It looks about normal.”

Champagne lovers are also in for a treat, as the sparkling wine grape harvest is looking good. Growers are planning on beginning that harvest sometime in mid-August, with the majority of the crop being picked shortly after Labor Day.

If you’re looking for an excuse to get out of the city for a while and enjoy a day in the wine country with friends and family, rent one of our Bay Area limos, SUV limos or other luxury options, and have a blast! Call us at NLS Limo today at 800-339-8936 for information about your rental options, and ask about our wine tour packages to save even more money. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of room in the trunk for cases of your favorite wines. Cheers!

Wedding Limo Bus Catches Fire on the Way to Reception

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on July 13, 2012

Some newlyweds in Minnesota and their wedding party had an unexpected detour on the way from the ceremony to their wedding reception recently. Ken and Liz McDonald and their wedding party were relaxing and having fun in the back of their limo bus when one of the bridesmaids noticed smoke rising through the seats. After learning about the smoke, the chauffeur immediately pulled over to the side of Interstate 35 and asked his guests to quickly get out of the limo bus. Everyone got out safely before the bus was engulfed in flames. The groom said that the wedding party got out of the limo bus with little time to spare.

“Two minutes later we were 100 yards from the bus and it was up in flames,” said groom Ken McDonald. “The plume was unbelievable.”

A police officer who stopped to investigate the fire notified the fire department and then transported the bride and groom to their reception. The rest of the wedding party was picked up shortly thereafter by the bride and groom’s parents and made it to the reception without further incident. The limo bus was a complete loss, and the owner is waiting on the report from the fire department to learn how the fire started.

We have heard some strange wedding limo stories over the years, and we frequently pass them along to our readers, but we are delighted that this one has a happy ending. After all, we’re in the happy ending business! We have been the Bay Area’s premier wedding limo bus service for years and are very proud to help couples and their friends and family members celebrate this very important moment in their lives.
