Rolls-Royce Announces Changes to Ghost Models Including Sport Coupe

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on September 12, 2012

Legendary luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce has been making some bold moves recently with their updated Phantom models, and it appears that more developments are in the works for Rolls-Royce motorcars. Rolls recently announced that they are updating their Ghost models as well, with an announced three different versions, one of which will be a coupe with a 600-plus horsepower engine. Rolls-Royce sold 3,538 Ghosts last year, a remarkable 31 percent increase over 2010’s sales. With the new models, they appear to be staking a larger claim on the luxury market in the coming years.

Rolls has not released many details about the upcoming changes but have said that they plan to unveil the sporty two-door Ghost models at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The new Ghost coupe will be built to hold the road rather than glide atop it, with a lowered suspension, shorter wheelbase and sport-tuned traction control system to get drivers’ adrenaline going in tight turns. Rolls has not yet announced a price for the new Ghost models, but buyers with adequate means will surely be placing orders with their local dealers for this new roadster.

Make Plans to Attend This Year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on August 20, 2012

People here in the Bay Area are very familiar with the wealthy and exclusive enclave of Pebble Beach. Nestled on the California coast just south of Monterey, Pebble Beach is home to seven golf courses, including the beautiful and notoriously difficult Pebble Beach Golf Links. However, when classic car enthusiasts like us think of Pebble Beach, we’re not thinking about fairways and putting greens. We’re thinking about the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, one of the world’s best classic car shows.

This annual event occurs on the third Sunday of each August and features the kind of classic cars that make aficionados swoon. This year will mark the 62nd anniversary of this marvelous event, but this show is definitely not designed to attract everyday car enthusiasts. Advance tickets sell for $200, but sticker shock has not been a problem for event organizers, who say that the car show attracted 15,000 people last year. This year, organizers have announced that they will award prizes to the top three cars in at least 20 categories. Winners will then compete for the coveted Best in Show award.

The ticket price alone would tell you that this is no ordinary car show, but to get an idea of how exclusive this annual event truly is, consider the automotive marques (brands to us ordinary collectors) that will be honored at this year’s show:

  • The Mercer automobile, which was manufactured in Trenton, N.J., from 1909 to 1925 and will have 12 entries
  • Eight Fiat automobiles, all manufactured in 1913 or earlier
  • Eleven very rare automobiles designed by Jacques Saoutchik, a Ukrainian-born custom carmaker who crafted automobiles in Paris from 1906 and 1955
  • Nine Shelby Cobras made between 1962 and 1966 by Carroll Shelby, the stuff from which car lovers from a certain era’s dreams are truly woven
  • Ten one-of-a-kind American sports cars built prior to 1968
  • Fifteen custom Rolls-Royce limousines built between 1924 and 1937 that were once owned by Indian Maharajas

In addition to that phenomenal list of vintage automobiles, there will be dozens of other superb antique cars for attendees to see and appreciate.

If you’re thinking about adding that feeling of timeless elegance to an upcoming special event, consider renting one of our San Francisco antique cars. We have a very respectable selection of vintage cars and are always in the market for models we can lovingly restore and add to our collection. Browse the pages of our site to see the Bay Area antique car rentals that are currently available. Vintage Popemobile Limousine Makes Rare Appearance on This Side of Atlantic

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on March 3, 2011

The landaulet-style 1965 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman limo commissioned by the Vatican for Pope Paul VI, also known as the first Popemobile, will make a rare North American appearance soon at the Amelia Island Vintage Car Show on March 11, 2011. The show and auction are an annual event on this northern Florida island, and this year’s show promises to be extra special as this will be the first appearance in the United States for this unique limousine. The Popemobile is on loan from the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, and it is seldom displayed in Europe, making this appearance quite unusual. This limo has been housed at the museum since it was decommissioned in 1985 after the latest Popemobile was built.

Rolls-Royce Looking into Electric-Powered Rolls Limousine

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on January 7, 2011

A statement released by Rolls-Royce has announced that the legendary automaker is considering production of an electric-powered limo in the near future. A recent uptick in sales of its luxury vehicles, a remarkable 171 percent in challenging economic times, and the corresponding influx of capital has inspired Rolls to explore new technologies. While the company has made no official announcement regarding when a prototype could be ready, industry watchdogs speculate that the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London is the target date. It makes sense that the world-class automaker would seek out a world-class event for maximum marketing potential. BMW has already announced that the London Games will be the coming-out party for their new environmentally friendly class of luxury cars.
