Recent Rise in Prom Limousines Comes From Unlikely Source
Prom limo rentals, once a very rare sight and luxury only available to the wealthy, are now increasingly common on weekend evenings in late spring all across the country. The source of the surging popularity in prom limousines is coming from an unlikely source – the parents of those attending the proms. Prom limos have always been a much sought-after mode of prom transportation, but, these days, limousine services are reporting that it is the parents making the reservations instead of their children.
A Brief Review of California Underage Liquor Law for Prom Limos
As prom season draws near, we want all of our guests to have a great time. In addition, we want their parents to rest easy knowing that the San Francisco limo service they’ve chosen takes the safety of their children very seriously. Before renting a Bay Area prom limo, party bus or other type of luxury transportation for the prom, your limo provider should ask underage guests and their parents to sign a Minors and Alcoholic Beverage Contract Agreement. In fact, before renting a prom limo in San Francisco or anywhere else this upcoming prom season, make sure you choose a limo service that makes this contract a requirement. Limo services that don’t require this contract are probably not ones with whom you’d like to do business, FYI.
New California Prom Limousine Law Passed
California lawmakers passed a new law last spring to address safety concerns about limousine companies, charter-party carriers and school transportation. Assembly Bill 830 (AB 830) requires limousine companies to get a specific type of permit from the Department of Motor Vehicles, and chauffeurs driving prom kids must receive additional training. The new law addresses vehicles classified as a School Pupil Activity Bus (SPAB). If a limousine transports students to and from schools and school functions, it has a SPAB vehicle classification.
