RSSVintage Presidential Limousine Makes Rare Public Appearance
A 1919 Pierce-Arrow limousine that once belonged to President Woodrow Wilson made a rare appearance at a Kansas City vintage auto show recently. The beautifully restored vintage limo was the highlight of the Art of the Car Concours at the Kansas City Art Institute. The classic limo is drivable, but it normally sits inside the Wilson Presidential Library in Staunton, VA. This vintage Pierce-Arrow features a six-cylinder engine and was the ultimate in automobile luxury in the past. Brand new, the Pierce-Arrow limousine cost $9,600, a princely sum in 1919.
While Wilson attended the Versailles peace conference, his friends bought the limo for him to enjoy after he left office and had it waiting for him when he returned. Mr. Wilson was reportedly enamored with the gift, especially enjoyed the limo’s head and leg room and could be seen riding in the back in Washington almost every day after his presidency.
