Emeryville, California has an extensive history that dates back to long before the Spanish settlers that arrived in 1776. In the early 20th century, Emeryville became known for its more seedy prospects including gambling dens, speakeasies, and bordellos as well as the industrial giant that it was becoming. When the technological age hit, many of Emeryville’s more labor-intensive industries dropped away to make room for such things such as Pixar Studios.
